Despite the tourist potential due to landscape characteristics, tourism is a poorly developed activity in the area. In this regard, the 4 communities cannot be considered a real tourist attraction, given the fact that the tourist infrastructure and the tourist offer are almost completely missing. However, this whole potential is beginning to be considered and capitalized by means of new accommodation facilities (in Vrâncioaia).
Within the protected area, tourism is represented by hiking, with a relatively small number of tourists, determined mainly by the isolated nature of the area, with the nearest village about 20 km away. Access can be made either on 2 marked footpaths or on the Mișina forest road (starting from Nereju Mic and going parallel with Zăbala river valley), unfortunately often impractical with the car. Accommodation can be found in a forest cottage and 3 forest cantons, all located inside the protected area, but with a closed circuit.
Nearby Nereju commune there are the mountain areas of Dealul Negru and Lapoș (1400 m) and Căldările Zăbalei (a protected area along Zăbala river), while the tourist attractions of Nistoreşti commune include Cheile Nărujei I and II, Lacul Negru, Cascada Mişina, “Verdele” Forest, Pietrosul and Mordanu peaks, Mount Goru and the Rescue Base. In Paltin commune, the mountainous areas owned by the communities are well suited for hiking and winter sports, also various cottages, hostels and campgrounds are situated on Platoul Tojanului.
