What is biodiversity? Why is education an important element for biodiversity conservation? The teachers of Şcoala Gimnazială Nereju Mic received answers to these questions during the first information meeting dedicated to them, organized within the educational program of the project.
This thematic presentation was aimed at raising awareness among the participants regarding the measures to protect biodiversity, the importance of the site of community interest Căldările Zăbalei and the need to provide ecological education to the school students. Another purpose of the meeting was to emphasize the crucial role that teachers have in the educational process, so that they can determine children to behave responsibly towards the environment.
Motivated to provide children with as much information as possible about nature protection, the teachers discussed with the project team about the ways they can do this both during school hours and through extracurricular activities that they can organize. In this respect, the importance of dialogue and interactivity during environmental school lessons was highlighted. Teachers agreed that this is the most effective way to get children to have initiative, to express their opinions and to feel the need to take part in community projects to protect nature.
The presentation was attended by 10 teachers, who received support materials containing additional information about the project and the site Şindriliţa. These materials were provided by the project team as in-depth information on project activities and as general benchmark on biodiversity conservation, so that teachers from Nereju Mic village could benefit from support in the process of educating students on ecological topics.
